Hadron production at RHIC: Recombination of Quarks

Results from the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider imply that recombination of quarks on the surface of the fireball is an important hadronization mechanism. It leads to an enhanced production of baryons and to a quark counting rule for elliptic flow. I will review the evidence and discuss the implications of the recombination model.
